Hi everybody: Here's the history of this group's membership Date Event membershiop ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2001-05-09 Jim Witherspoon started the group 4 2001-05-10 Kan Yabumoto joined 5 2001-05-11 Kan's first mailing to 740 XXCOPY users done 8 2001-05-12 Membership count at 22:30 33 2001-05-13 Membership count at 01:20 37 2001-05-14 Membership count at 20:40 61 2001-05-15 Membership count at 23:00 68 2001-05-15 Kan's 2nd mailing to 13,000 DATMAN users done The first round of mass email was for roughly 700 people whose Email addresses were received from XXCOPY feedback entries. The second round of mass emailing started a few days ago and it was just completed. The email addresses were collected at the DATAMAN.COM site (a XXCOPY Sister site). A total of about 13,000 emails went out and over 7,500 of them bounced (about 60% of all Emails sent). Our mailbox is flooded by bounced emails. I imagine about 60% of the current membership came from the initial emailing to the XXCOPY users. The remaining people is assumed to be from the second round of Email (DATMAN site visitors). I would say, this round was not quite successful... My initial wishful guestimate of about 100 members within a few days has been proven false. What I ended up with was a few people who were visibly disturbed by receiving the invitation (unsolicited email) to the XXCOPY discussion group. Already the rate of increase has tapered off. The next few days will bring in some new member from my second round of Emailing, but I don't expect many. Everybody in this group should pay their due by either posting an article here (anything related to XXCOPY), and/or to recruit new members by posting invitation articles in various newsgroups. Since the nature of this discussion group is for mutual help as a users group, I don't believe it would be in violation of the "netiquettes" to send postings with an announcement of this discussion group. At this point, if none of us in this groups steps up the promotion activities, this group won't succeed in expanding the membership. Without certain level of membership, I'm afraid the group will probably stagnate. I think this week is a crucial time for this group.
