Programmers are by nature lazy. (Hush! I've been a professional
programmer since 1972 and am proud of being lazy effectively.)
Read only source files that get editied often. This looks like
Source Safe in operation. When you check files out in Source
Safe it copies to your local drive. When you check the files
back in, they are made read only in the local drive to prevent
unintended changes.

This is also useful when copying files from CD's.
