Therefore, a knowledge of how to open and how to run a command from the DOS Box is essential to use the XXCOPY program effectively. Unfortunately, it take great many lines to explain just that. Please find some source of info on this subject first (it is out of scope of our trying to help the users for the basic level of DOS proficiency). But, once you have a DOS Box opened and if you learn how to enter a command and get a desired result, you can proceed. Type PATH The system will respond with a line like: PATH=C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND; This line shows the list of directories in your system which will be searched for the qualifying command file when you type a command line. Usually, there are more directories (separated by a semicolon). Any of these directories is a good candidate for XXCOPY to be copied into. In most cases, the C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND directory is present and that is the recommended directory for XXCOPY. By copying XXCOPY into one of those existing directories which are in the PATH= parameter simplifies the command line invocation of XXCOPY in the future. But, it is not very critical as to where you put the XXCOPY.EXE file, as long as you know how to invoke the XXCOPY.EXE program from anywhere else. You must learn how a command is executed. If you still don't know where to put XXCOPY into, then pick the first item in the PATH= line you obtained (between the equal sign (=) and the first semicolon (;)). It will be fine.
