Number : 89 Date : 2001-05-18 Author : Bob Weir Subject : Installing XXCOPY in Win ME (Dick Wynveen's query) Size(KB) : 1
As a novice, I had the same problem trying to install XXCOPY onto a new (ME= ) hard drive from the downloaded XXCOPY suite on a 1=B744 diskette. I then= copied the suite to the ME desktop, used control panel's add/subtract prog= rams to browse to the XXCOPY suite and to open INSTALL.BAT (in the XXCOPY s= uite on the desktop). This will not be the "preferred" way, but it worked, and may help Dick. I moved to ME because of its' restore feature, without realising that I wou= ld not be able to run my (W9X) copies of Partition Magic or Drive Image (am= ongst others) from the DOS prompt Box (Window). I hope to migrate from an = old (ME) HDD to a new HDD by running a minimum install of ME on the new dri= ve and using XXCOPY [rather than use XXCOPY16 from the start up diskette to= an empty HDD and then restoring long file names etc.]. I am slowly working up to a better understanding of the appropriate XXCOPY = switch options before attempting this deceptively simple operation. If the= re are well known (obvious to cognoscenti) pitfalls with this approach, ple= ase let me know. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
