Frit: Yes, you may put the XXCOPY tools anywhere you need. Although the XXCOPY package comes with a rudimentary "install" batch file, there is not much to perform in the installation. All you need to do is to copy the XXCOPY.EXE (or XXCOPY16.EXE) file into whichever directory you prefer. I believe most users who runs command line utilities on a regular basis have a few directories where such tools are kept (such as \tools or \bin directory). Our standard install procedure copies the XXCOPY tools into the \windows\command (or \winnt\system32) directory since in nearly all Win9x/NT/2000 systems, the directory does exist and also in the default "PATH". Other than that, there is no restriction as to where to keep the XXCOPY executable files. In the upcoming versions, XXCOPY has the initial /INSTALL switch which initializes the XXCOPY entry in the system registry. Unlike most other Windows applications, there aren't much needed in the installation procedure. Also, we try to keep the utility all in one file without being dependent upon other supporting files (even the help-info is built-in). Although the file size gets substantially large in this scheme, the advantage of this is that all you need to worry is just one file, XXCOPY.EXE (or XXCOPY16.EXE for the dos environment) to transport from one environment to another. That's how most DOS program once were. In order to deal with emergency situations, I recommend that everybody copy XXCOPY.EXE and XXCOPY16.EXE into the emergency boot disk always.
