Correct me if I'm wrong. My understanding of how Yahoo Groups works is that you must be a member of the group to subscribe the Email. Is there a way to subscribe to the Email without a member? If you want to become a member of a group (the XXCOPY group in this case), you have no choice but to register to Yahoo and get a Yahoo ID, first. It seems that Yahoo tries to control all aspect of Yahoo-related Internet resources. I really never thought too much on the Yahoo membership when I started get involved in this XXCOPY group because I had my Yahoo ID for other Yahoo thing (the stock quoting feature). Sometimes, the linkage between one Yahoo activity and another becomes a hassle (for example, for better or worse, I happen to have two ID for this group since I want to be just a regular member to make sure that everything I experience is what other regular members experience (including receiving Emails, etc.) while I use the "Pixelab_Datman" ID as a moderator (which actually I inherited from Jim Witherspoon who started this group a month ago). So, occasionally I log in to the Yahoo group as Pixelab_Datman which causes a lot of other Yahoo related thing go wild. I guess that's how it works and I just accept how it is. One feature I like about the Yahoo group is that they help us keep our Email address from exposed to the general public by showing only a part of it (but allows us to send an Email using their linkage) to fight against spamming. I for one, get tons of junk Emails at the tech.xxcopy address and I gave up fighting against spamming --- takes more energy to fight than just discard all junk... But, in a way, just to subscribe and join the XXCOPY group for the sake of discussion, etc. seems to come with a sense of "loss of privacy" and I feel a bit uneasy. Of course, nobody forces you to become a member (except we at Pixelab now strongly urge Freeware users to become a member here so that we don't have to repeat lot of the same tech support question). Since it is a free service by Yahoo which I believe is supported solely by the banner advertisement (and possibly their future leverage to our lives by knowing at least our email address), it is a fair deal. The ad banners in the Yahoo groups does not seem to bother me. Any comment ? Actually, I have some more thoughts on the group and I'm going to post another one shortly...
