I also received a message - However, I then logged into yahoo with my username
and password and downloaded the file.

If your browser is set to accept and retain cookies, and you had selected the
"remember me" option when you last used Yahoo, then it would have allowed the
download with no intervention.

There may be an issue if you were an egroups? member and have not "converted"
your account to the Yahoo equivalent, since Yahoo took over egroups.
