Joseph: For those who don't know what it is, let me explain the background. Under DOS and Win9x/ME, a well behaving program such as XXCOPY (which uses only the standard file I/O API to access the disk rather than using direct-disk I/O, bypassing the file system) cannot modify the timestamp of a directory. However, under WinNT/2000, there is a way to change the directory timestamp using official file I/O API. Due to the roots of XXCOPY, it had not adjusted the directory time stamps even with the /CLONE procedure. That has changed since v.2.55.6 (released to a very limited number of users) in March 2001. For practical purposes, this current series of beta test versions (v.2.56.x) is the first time you see this feature enabled. Please do not get confused. This feature is not dependent upon the type of the partition (i.e, the distinction between FAT vs NTFS). Rather, it is under what OS, XXCOPY is launched. So, if you have a dual-boot (Win9x and NT/200) system, you can always boot into the NT/2000 OS, and create or clone the directory, and switch back to Win9x if you really need to keep the directory time of a FAT partition in sync with the source. In the case of NTFS, it is always possible (using the newest version of XXCOPY) that the directory timestamp will be set the same as the source.
