Shep, I'll need to defer to others on the question of the WIN98 updates. My understanding would be that you would be starting with your base WIN98 source files and would need to apply the various updates the same way that you did in the past unless the microsoft website has 'consolidated' updates that you could apply. I would express a word of caution with regard to trying to re-establish your operating system and programs from a CD backup that has not preserved the relationship between the long and short file names. The understanding that it works 90% of the time would be anecdotal and the nature of the potential problem is such that the process might appear to be working okay when in fact the installation is flawed and will crash in future or give unpredictable results. If you have no effective alternative then crossing ones fingers is okay but you may be building your future work on an unstable base. I expect Kan agrees that, while xxcopy is very effective in many ways, until future enhancements are made you should not rely on xxcopy to create reliable CD backups of your operating system and program environments (unless that Doslfnbk utility fills the gap?).
