Thanks for the reply MM! I'm afraid I didn't describe my process very well..I'll try again PC #1 Win98, FAT32 PC #2 Win95A FAT16 I used xxcopy /clone to clone the boot drive on PC#1 to a secondary HD (D:) on PC #2 over the LAN. The copying process seemed to go well, but when I removed the HD from PC #2 and placed it in PC#1, it wouldn't boot, although the system recognizes the drive. I finished off with the recommended fdisk to set the primary partition active, and the recommended fdisk /mbr. I also tried your suggestion of sys c:, but still no boot. frank
