Melissa, could you be more specific regarding files being lost when a writable CD is closed. That doesn't sound like a "standard technology" scenario. What aspect of closing a writable CD would result in lost files. Is anyone else aware of this feature of closing a CD. The only factor that I can think of is that file names sometimes must be modified if they exceed something like 60(??) characters, but that would not be a common occurrence.
