Hi all... as a newbie with xxcopy I have a very wild problem and questions..... have a pc put together last year.. its an amd 950 on a epox motherboard with a 20 gig hard drive as master and an LS120 drive as the salve ... ide 1 on ide 2 are 2 CD roms.. one aburner and the othger a plain cd rom drive. the OS is win me....when it was all installed for soem reason the bios picked up as logical block addressing and identiefed it as a 20 gig drive.... someway shape or formthe jumper for the ls120 that sets slave or master either fell out or whatever.. but was never there... I was in the process of making changes and removed the 120 drive ony to find that the machine would not boot and came up as no system boot form cd... putting the 120 drive back on gave me the system again and boots and operates all perfectly. now comes in xxcopy..... I think there is an improper mbr on the hard drive that results in not booting when the ls120 isnt there.. so I am going to remove the cd roms...temporarily and install another 20 gig all formatted etc on ide2 bus and use xxcopy to clone the old drive..... my question is concerning the logical block addressing... when this occurs will it mess up the data on the drive or simply nmake it a clone that will now boot alone? then I intend on fdisking the old drive and reformatting all without the 120 so that is becomes a bootable drive without the logical block addressing.... lol.. if any of you have followed my seemingly rambles here sure would ask for advise as the origianl 20 gig drive has tons of stuff cant afford to loose... school stuff of sons college graphics course plus programing etc.... take weeks to reinstall all of them if lost not to say the work he has done to date...begging for some advise and or help .... please.... have learned one thing..... it sure pays to double check things and not take it for granted.. and that is what I failed to do evidientily when setting the box all up... other than that the darn thing is a neat little speed demon working like a champ... but... cant make any changes to the drive setup right now.... so. will be watching an waiting..... Chuck... in Ok
