Steve: Please note that the way the OS (the command processor program --- COMMAND.COM in DOS/Win9X/ME or CMD.EXE in NT/2K/XP) treats the comment prefix (REM or ::) in a batch file has nothing to do with how XXCOPY treats its own text file(s) --- /EX and /CF files. The documentation about :: in XXTB #26 is strictly for XXCOPY's file format (for which we chose the double-colon sequence in addition to the double-slash (//) notation) for comment. We chose the sequence for a loose association for those who know the double-colon feature for the batch file. But, the two are quite independent. For one thing, XXCOPY cannot accept the "REM" sequence as a valid comment prefix due to syntactic collision with other rules (the REM sequence would qualify as a valid pathname for the source (or destination) specifier. So, please do not try to apply the /EX (and /CF) text file format rules for the batch file format. The two are governed by different programs and do not really share the same rules exactly. For a complete coverage of the XXCOPY external file specifications, please take a look at the following page: http://www.xxcopy.com/xxcopy37.htm For batch file format, you should ask Microsoft.
