I'm new to XXCOPY and the plethora of switches that controls its execution is quite overwhelming so I need some help. :) The situation is this: I have already created backups of my various partitions to a backup partition using another product which unfortunately did not preserve the short filenames and I'd like to use xxcopy to correct this. How do I do that? Looking at the documentation it looks like the /NS switch is just what I want: xxcopy c: z:\DaveWinSys /s /ns Yes? No? I tried the above command but it flooded the console with a bunch of console messages saying the short filenames were the same. All I want to see are any messages saying that it fixed a short filename that was wrong. How do I suppress the console display to get just that? Would the /Q switc do it, or should I use a different switch? Thanks! -- "Fish" (David B. Trout) fish (at) infidels.org
