You simply create a standard Win98 boot disk, copy his files onto the disk, then use the "ntcp" command to copy a fresh copy of userenv.dll over the corrupt one. You will have to know Linux to switch virtual consoles, mount a drive, move between directories and copy files from the floppy to the NTFS partition. http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/ And finally, your third option, which might be the easiest, is to simply install a second copy of XP onto the same hard drive or another hard drive if you have one in your system. Make sure you pick an alternative install directory (such as C:\WINXP) and do not install into the same C:\WINDOWS directory. Once it is installed, you can boot the second copy of windows and just use Explorer to replace the corrupt file. When your primary install is restored, you can boot that version and delete the second one you just installed. Or, you can just leave it incase you need to repeat this exercise in the future. Personally, I always have two compatible operating systems on the same system just for these scenario's. Note: I highly recommend renaming the old file before copying the new file (as opposed to simply overwriting the file). The reason being if the actual hard drive is corrupt, the renamed file will still occupy that space and prevent the new file from being written to the same corrupt location. Last time I used the two boot disks, they worked just fine. I have not use them in a while so I can't vouch for the recent versions.
