Thanks so much for responding. Well, I'm not that much of a newbie! 
The disk is formatted; in fact there are already some files on it. 
I'm glad that xxcopy will eventually work for me. 

Here is the message I get from xxcopy: 
[It says my CD is full. Maybe there is a switch that says the output 
is a CD/]
