Briansmith422: If you made a complete duplicate of C: to D: using xxcopy c:\ d:\ /clone Then, D: drive should be a logical equivalent to C:. If you follow the steps shown in the XXTB #10 article, (http://www.xxcopy.com/xxcopy10.htm), then, you should be able to successfully boot your system to the Windows ME environment using the cloned drive. I in essence, you can do it by swapping the C: and D:. What I recommend you to do is to do the swap and make the new, swapped drive to be the new C: drive first. After doing so, you can repeat the operation (follow the XXTB #10 from start again), by xxcopy c:\ d:\ /clone This procedure may take slightly longer than a simple restore by XXCOPY D:\ C:\ /CLONE as you suggest. The reason for the extra steps that I recommend is that many essential files in the C:\windows directory are in use by running Win9X/SE system which cannot be overwritten while the files are opened. The reason for the successful /CLONE operation from C: to D: is the fact the file accesses by XXCOPY are all in read-only mode. But if you try to reverse the direction, some key files will fail to be copied. Aside from a complete bootable disk cloning, I recommend the creation of simple boot diskette by following the procedure outlined in the XXTB #32 (or #33) article: http://www.xxcopy.com/xxcopy32.htm Cheers, Kan Yabumoto ======================================================= At 2002-08-16 12:39, you wrote: >Can I clone my bootable C drive with Me on it to my D drive, screw up >my C drive badly (by attempting to install XP), and recover by >xxcopying D back to C ???
