Hi: I am currently using PowerQuest's Drive image 2000 and also Partition Magic 7.01. These are the latest versions. I backed up my c: drive under a dos boot this morning and my data drive under windows within the hour. These programs work great! Always have. The GUI user interface (DOS and Win) is highly biased AGAINST you making an error. DI cannot backup drives that have any lock on them. My c: drive is one example where I have to boot dos to do it. It took 27 minutes to backup the C: drive to a (that is one) CD-R. Considerable time is spent doing the optional verify write and verify image functions. This is a fat16b drive about 75% full according to the windows explorer. DI does not copy unused sectors and it will compress the data as well (your option). You can back to a hard drive, I was really bugged that DI requires new media whether CDRW or CDR. But since it supports my Sony CDRW drive in the dos boot (the only proram that does), I am now a fan. I use CDRs exclusively for DI because of the low cost and improved capacity over CDRWs (I use CDRW for XXCOPY). I just bought two 50 piece CDRs at Micro center for 3.99+tax+stamp after rebate. A sample from each spindle was used this morning and they worked well. I do get an "Error 3 - out of memory" scary condition near the front of the copy (under DOS boot) (about the time that it copies boot info to the CDR). However it runs well after I . Support has been unable to help me with this. I suspect that it has something to do with the number of drive letters that I use (12 HD's and 5 CD). To be fair if you call support the call gets answered in a short time and the techs are reasonably competent. They do want to charge you 35.00 when you report some kinds problems and want a solution. It depends on the tech you get. When you go up to the manager no one can hear you scream (a vacuum). I also had a problem with the "virtual floppy" (whatever that is) used when you request an operation within windows that requires a DOS boot to complete. I resolved that problem by knowing in advance when I needed a DOS boot and booted manually. The DI program comes with an image explorer that accesses the file created by the program and displays the files and folders in the same way as windows explorer. You can point to a file and view it. You can or restore a folder or a file. You are not stuck with full volume restores. I have not yet restored anythng. xxcopy@yahoogroups.com wrote: > Date: Wed, 11 Sep 2002 13:59:56 +1000 > From: Charles Knox > Subject: Re: Re: clone win2000pro > > At 08:26 PM 10/09/2002 -0000, you wrote: > > PowerQuest's Drive Copy used to work fine -- haven't used the latest > versions, though. > > Charles > > >yes i expect to much LOL. > >PLEASE tell me which program would do a mirror image for me. > >Any help is appreciated! > > > >I Know this is asking a lot of a program...but heck, I'm sure there > >are some smart folks who have run into this an hopfully succeded!! > > > >I tried Drive image by powerquest but have a problem with vfloppy.sys > >file. > > > >Thanks > > > > > >--- In xxcopy@y..., Chaz Cone wrote: > >> dock1248, > >> > >> You're expecting too much from xxcopy.
