Gabe: To be honest. I'm not sure if XXCOPY works well with the DFS. I have only a superficial knowledge of the DFS which I understand can form a "virtual" volume which consists of directories from multiple hosts (computers) in a network. We have never set up active directories in our labs. In theory, XXCOPY should not have problem accessing a volume which is implemented by a distributed file system, I would not be surprised if XXCOPY does not work with one (assuming that the user has proper permission to access the volume, of course). We have seen that Microsoft implemented various file systems with subtle differences. The behavior of the pivotal system function, GetFullPathName() was sufficiently different on various platforms, that we had to devise a unified function inside XXCOPY (that we wrote) which removes the subtle differences. Therefore, we would not be surprised if XXCOPY fails to perform predictably with a DFS volume, even from the behavior of the one function alone! So, chances are 50-50 that you may find XXCOPY to be flawless in accessing a DFS volume. Or, it may not work well. In either way, I will not be surprised. Sorry for this "evasive" answer. At present, I don't have anything more concrete to say about the DFS. Maybe you (or other members in this group) can tell us more about how XXCOPY fares with the DFS.
