Most mailing lists to which I subscribe send an e-mail to confirm the subscription, and don't actually subscribe until they receive a reply from that subscriber. That ensures that the subscriber can be reached, and was not spoofed by some script kiddie. The yahoo groups may not be suitable for this. Jpsoft used to use another service for the purpose, which was more or less satisfactory and made the equivalent of a newsgroup until it got screwed up. It may have been fixed by now, but I don't download the pseudo newsgroup any more. Their service provided newsgroup and webpage access.
