Assuming that this is not your boot drive, the "volume busy" can be caused by your DOS window's current directory is on that volume. (Even when that DOS Window is running the chkdsk. Dumb, but true). I'll leave that to Kan. Sounds very unusual. Maybe some sort of LFN confusion in the directory?
