Thank you, Kan, for your reply; also Chaz and Chuck. One of the first things we tried was a comparison using the switch /FU. Files that should have been identical still showed a one hour difference. This was using either version 2.82.2 or 2.82.6. We expect that we will copying all of the files on all of the machines, twice a year. It is not a problem; it is an inconvenience and a puzzle.
