I am wondering whether XXCOPY could be used in conjunction with NTBACKUP in a backup strategy, relying on NTBACKUP to backup those busy files that XXCOPY can't copy. I would like it if I could do a minimalist NTBACKUP backup, and rely on XXCOPY to do the rest. If this is possible, what ought to be included in the NTBACKUP backup, so that everything would be restored as it was, after running an NTBACKUP restore, and then copying back up the files backed up using XXCOPY? The advantage of doing a minimal NTBACKUP is to reduce the size of the backup file. The advantage of using XXCOPY is that the files are still accessible from the backup drive, without having to "restore" them first.
