I have had great luck using XXCOPY to transfer files from directory to directory on my network for backup file serving. My big problem now is how to use XXCOPY to write to DVD+RW so I can have an offsite backup copy of my files. I fully agree that NTBackup/Restore processes are burdensome and glitchy compared to simple files copied onto another directory. It also solves the problem of having the novice office user perform emergency restoration. They simply use the backup directories and work trudges on...marek "jim.w" wrote:I am wondering whether XXCOPY could be used in conjunction with NTBACKUP in a backup strategy, relying on NTBACKUP to backup those busy files that XXCOPY can't copy. I would like it if I could do a minimalist NTBACKUP backup, and rely on XXCOPY to do the rest. If this is possible, what ought to be included in the NTBACKUP backup, so that everything would be restored as it was, after running an NTBACKUP restore, and then copying back up the files backed up using XXCOPY? The advantage of doing a minimal NTBACKUP is to reduce the size of the backup file. The advantage of using XXCOPY is that the files are still accessible from the backup drive, without having to "restore" them first. Yahoo! Groups SponsorADVERTISEMENT Your use of Yahoo!
