I tried using WinZip for the file selection process and was less than satisfied. It made errors and is far less flexible than XXCOPY. WinZip is supposed to chop up an archive larger than 4 gigabytes, though I haven't tried it, only used it on smaller jobs and it works great. ----snip---- > I use xxcopy /CLONE to maintain (quickly) a complete backup on a > second HD, which is ready to be instantly installed to replace any > failure. Isn't a backup defined by the purpose of it's creator's needs which vary from person to person? Hard drives have moving parts and can fail. CDs can be corrupted. Take your pick according to your needs. Also, compressed archives seem to make CD-Rs and CD-RWs more reliable. Personally I'm waiting for HDs to get even cheaper. Throw in a hot swappable drive bay, DVD burner, larger DVD rewritable disks (in the future?) and there's a backup system! Yes I have a second hard drive but it's filled with all kinds of individual XXCOPY backups! BTW, I like the great flexibility of XXCOPY as a file management tool and not just for backups. dayvah49
