If you are asking whether XXCOPY supports file transfer to/from remote computers using http: or ftp, the answer is no. It makes sense that FTP (I'm not really sure about HTTP) should be treated by the system level that can be made available to ordinary applications (including XXCOPY). The concept is universal. But, then, isn't that what the VPN is trying to address? People ask us "is there a log-on feature inside XXCOPY?" The answer is no. It is quite easy to set up a batch file and make the batch file invoked in a context of some specific user with all the right permission and privilege it needs. The FTP often needs log on and password chores also. Even the simplest fact that a password embedded in a visible batch file is a no-no in security is reason enough not to do FTP from XXCOPY. I believe our right attitude on this issue is let Microsoft work on the easier access to FTP at the system level (they may already be supporting it under some obscure scheme that we are not familiar with). When the Windows system assigns a drive letter to the FTP, that is the time XXCOPY-based backup can take advantage of the FTP as a viable backup and file-transfer solution. As to the HTTP, I recently stumbled on a book called "Perl & LWP". The book (I did not finish reading it) talks about techniques using Perl and a special library called LWP (Library-for-WWW-in-Perl). It basically shows you how to write a perl script to interact with WWW servers. When you master this technique, you can write a little "robot" that does the surfing for you. Just as an example, it goes to the NY Times web page, reads the main page and converts it into a ten-line summary of the page. It can invoke a Google search session and fetch the info that is returned by the Google server and make a text file on your hard disk. But, both FTP and HTTP thing seems very much out of the scope of what XXCOPY should do. Ciao.
