Sorry, didn't mean for this topic to generate so much controversy. ... I woke up this morning and realized where my error was: If you don't specify anything, xxcopoy defaults to using the "last written" timestamp (/fw) when checking against any /date switches. Since Micro$oft always creates a new "file created" timestamp whenever you copy a file, even if you choose the /clone option, I should have used the /fc switch to perform my pruning against. ---(Even if a file that has been backed-up hasn't been accessed or written to for long periods of time, prior to it being backed-up, the file creation date on the backup will always be the date it was created on. In other words, the most recent date to perform the check against (thereby matching the folder date the file was created in is you use the date macro to create the folder name. I know, the actual property timestamps of the folder will also match, but I like the visual correlation as well.)--- I wish to thank everyone who responded with their creative solutions (I'm still digesting some of the excellant material and links), especially Kan, who always takes the time to thoughtfully respond to everyone. (Best forum on Yahoo in my opinion because of him!) I'm now a little wiser, and appreciate all the help. Martin Life if full of uncertainties... or could I be wrong about that?
