/NX0 <-- the third letter is zero. Next time, you get into problem where a switch is rejected, just type /HELP with it and it will give you a list of switches that start with the same alphabet. xxcopy /nxo /help // works even when it is misspelled xxcopy /nx0 /help It cancels the default XXCOPY operation, /NX which tries to preserve the SFN. In your case, it is necessary. XXCOPY uses a lot of switches most of which are really "hidden" as default settings. A typical copy operation in XXCOPY is controlled by a set of switches like the following... /AXH /AXS /B0 /C /CB0 /CCY /CK /CL1G /CR3 /D0 /DL0 /E0 /EC0 /ED0 /ER0 /F0 /FM0 /FF0 /FL /FT0 /FW /H0 /I0 /IN* /K0 /L0 /N0 /NP /NX /NI0 /NW /NC0 /o0 /oD1 /oE0 /oF1 /oI0 /oP0 /oS0 /oX0 /oL3 /P0 /PB0 /PC0 /PD0 /Po /WU /PZ0 /Q0 /QF0 /QB0 /QS0 /R0 /S0 /SP0 /SG0 /SX0 SZ:- /T0 /TR00 /TS0 /TD0 /TTA0 /TCA0 /TCC0 /TCW /TM0 /U0 /V0 /W0 /WD /WV /Z0 /ZE0 /ZS0 /ZX0 See the /NX in the list. Unless you disable it by /NX0, XXCOPY will try to preserve the SFN in the destination that was the cause of the funny directory names you saw in your destination directory.
