Well, I removed all CD-RW and DVD-RW software (including Windows Media player) then reinstalled just EC5 with DirectCD on WinXP Pro. No registry edits were required Drop and drag functions, command line functions all work just fine now. I just formatted the disc (with DirectCD) and simply wrote to it. The Explorer shows the files that I have transferred and when I eject the DVD it finishes the burn cycle to the DVD. I loaded UDF reader from Roxio on my alternate machine and it can read the DVD just fine. My xxcopy command writes it just fine to the d: drive. Now I need to master the batch file command to close the UDF formatted disc (burn) the project to the disc while unattended. The temp file with all the data is nice, but I would feel better having the DirectCD finish the job of burning the data to the DVD after xxcopy finishes its job. When I click on "eject" on DirectCD, it completes the burning process and finishes writing to the DVD+RW. This needs to be part of my xxcopy batch file. If anyone has already done this with DirectCD I would be most appreciative of your batch command for DirectCD control. xxcopy C:\home\*.* d:\home\ /V/I/KS/H/E/R/Q/Y/oS2/oNc:\home\xxcopy\friday_backuplog.txt Many thanks to all who have demystified the temp file to burn process of the packet writing tools. For me the problems didn't stop there, I also had to rename the driver extensions for MusicMatch and Windows Media Player! Astute observers will notice that both programs have CD writing capabilities and therefore *DRIVERS* that have to be disabled by renaming or deleting. There is another possible problem and that is the WinXP "In House" CD writing capabilities itself. According to what I've read it is best to disable those functions and have a 3rd party software Optical Disc writing program installed, (ECDC/DirectCD or Nero/InCD are the most popular). In other words I'm speaking about 2nd hand experience not 1st hand about XP issues. Marek you do not mention Easy CD Creator so my advice is go with Nero for CD-R writing and InCD for "packet writing" and uninstall, delete and/or rename per software intstructions for the other products and there drivers.
