The ongoing saga gets better. When I don't rush to eject the DVD from my drive for testing in another computer, I find that XXcopy and DirectCD work just fine. I was thinking that the burn cycle was not going to be completed without some sort of input from the DirectCD application. It turns out that it just was lagging to write the data to the DVD+RW media. When I give it time to finish its job after sending the xxcopy command, I merely eject the disc with the button on the drive and the media is ready for reading by any UDF reader. I have been able to read the files from CD-RW and DVD-ROM drives with the Roxio UDF reader running. My batch files will continue to be as simple as xxcopy > source files > destination > log it... Thanks to all...if I identify more issues or solutions I will be sure to pass it along. I suspect that DirectCD will live up (down) to its' reputation. I will then license InCD and work with the Nero products. Marek Marek Yarbrough wrote: Well, I removed all CD-RW and DVD-RW software (including Windows Media player) then reinstalled just EC5 with DirectCD on WinXP Pro. No registry edits were required Drop and drag functions, command line functions all work just fine now. I just formatted the disc (with DirectCD) and simply wrote to it. The Explorer shows the files that I have transferred and when I eject the DVD it finishes the burn cycle to the DVD. I loaded UDF reader from Roxio on my alternate machine and it can read the DVD just fine. My xxcopy command writes it just fine to the d: drive. Now I need to master the batch file command to close the UDF formatted disc (burn) the project to the disc while unattended. The temp file with all the data is nice, but I would feel better having the DirectCD finish the job of burning the data to the DVD after xxcopy finishes its job. When I click on "eject" on DirectCD, it completes the burning process and finishes writing to the DVD+RW. This needs to be part of my xxcopy batch file. If anyone has already done this with DirectCD I would be most appreciative of your batch command for DirectCD control. xxcopy C:\home\*.* d:\home\ /V/I/KS/H/E/R/Q/Y/oS2/oNc:\home\xxcopy\friday_backuplog.txt Many thanks to all who have demystified the temp file to burn process of the packet writing tools. My best advice based on personal experience with CD-R/CD- RW is pick a product for writing to CD-R, CD-RW, and DVD+RW or DVD-RW (no experience with the last two) and clear out everything that might conflict with it by following the software instructions. To get InCD to work in Win98 I had to quite literally do a registry search for all references to "DirectCD" and delete them! Why, because Easy CD Creator and DirectCD do a very bad job of uninstalling themselves. Marek I am *NOT* recommending you do this! It was very harrowing for me but thankfully successfull. For me the problems didn't stop there, I also had to rename the driver extensions for MusicMatch and Windows Media Player! Astute observers will notice that both programs have CD writing capabilities and therefore *DRIVERS* that have to be disabled by renaming or deleting. There is another possible problem and that is the WinXP "In House" CD writing capabilities itself. According to what I've read it is best to disable those functions and have a 3rd party software Optical Disc writing program installed, (ECDC/DirectCD or Nero/InCD are the most popular). In other words I'm speaking about 2nd hand experience not 1st hand about XP issues. Marek you do not mention Easy CD Creator so my advice is go with Nero for CD-R writing and InCD for "packet writing" and uninstall, delete and/or rename per software intstructions for the other products and there drivers. Also, Marek these URLs might help in understanding DVD/CD and WinXP problems. http://www.dvddemystified.com/dvdfaq.html#4.3 http://www.aumha.org/a/xpcd.htm I just read Kan's post and as usual he is trying to keep us on track. dayvah49 --- In xxcopy@yahoogroups.com, Marek Yarbrough wrote: > I found the InCD manual was very explicit about removing any other packet writing software. I had both installed at my last attempt and will first try DirectCD alone then InCD if I have any failures. I will document my XXCopy command and results as well. I was surprised when I posed my simple need to the Roxio tech support and they basically said they had no solution since they deleted command line support with their latest software releases. But it seems that the bulk of the problem will be solved by following this groups recommendations. Thanks again for the info. Yahoo! Groups SponsorADVERTISEMENT Your use of Yahoo!
