Every software company has to have a pricing model and the one for XXCopy i= s simple and straight forward. Every pricing model seems too fair to some u= sers and unfair to others. I think the XXCopy model is very fair, since it = is free to most individual users and moderately priced for commercial users= .=20 I think my company is rather typical. We do most of our copying from a file= server to a backup machine and use only two licenses for that. Two XXCopy = licenses to backup hundreds of Gigabytes is a bargain. We also want to gat= her pst (mail) files from many desktops and have purchased a larger number = of licenses to do that. If you look at programs like Arc Serve or Backup Ex= ec, they call these licenses "client' or 'agent' licenses and force some ac= tive software component on the local desktops to better prevent circumventi= on of the license count. Ghost uses the same model for multicasting.=20 XXCopy assumes that users will be more honest and purchase what they are re= quired to purchase and so it dispenses with the agent software on every des= ktop. Please do not penalize XXCopy for being more straight forward with i= ts customers. Look instead at the total cost of ownership and compare it wi= th other options. From our point of view, any way we look at cost versus ut= ility, XXCopy wins very easily. -Gabe Fineman Advanced Solutions International -----Original Message----- From: Eric Goldenberg [mailto:eric_h_g@y...] Sent: Thursday, January 02, 2003 9:05 AM To: xxcopy@yahoogroups.com Subject: [xxcopy] Licensing if xxcopy pro is installed on 1 computer that will copy files to 16 other c= omputers why is it necessary to purchase 16 licenses? If xxcopy is only ins= talled on 1 computer why do i need additional licenses?
