I might even interpret "b" as coming after "a", which comes after the root version; hence I'd still get it backwards. How about just writing out "beta", as in 2.92.6beta? Actually, I'd prefer a system in which a simple ASCII sort of the version numbers places them in correct chronological order. But maybe that just means I've been programming for too long.....
