The following two files are useful for turning numeric tails on
and off in W95 and W98. Don't know about other versions. Watch
out for line wrap. They only take effect after a reboot. With
notails 8.3 names are truncated versions, and only conflicting
names have the numeric tails added. Don't have notails in effect
when installing Microsoft software, they like to wire things in
and indulge in other unclean disgusting practices.

The critical thing is the "NameNumericTail" field. You can simply
add/change that one manually in regedit.
