I went to the link below. There is also a getvar command.
A simple (not elegant) idea to use for setting a return code from xxcopy. See the link.

Suppose xxcopy had an output file that will contain a set command, for example:
set errorlevel=100

xxcopy /rc=errorlevel /rctf=FullyQualifiedFileName.bat ......
call FullyQualifiedFileName.bat
echo the return value from xxcopy is [%errorlevel%]
if [%errorlevel%]==[0] go to ok
if [%errorlevel%]==[100] go to ok
