There are a variety of 'diff' programs that will compare two files and save 
the differences into a 'patch' file that can applied to the original file 
to make them the same. All the ones I can think of are designed to work 
with text files but there may be one that will work with binary data. That 
way, you could compare the two files, zip and transmit the difference then 
apply the changes on the other side of the WAN link. Just a thought...
