Open a DOS window and type DIR /? and you will see the switches available for the DIR comand. /X displays the short filename for non 8.3 filenames. If you have a file called say myfile.doc123, you would normally see only that name in explorer or with the DIR command. However (unless 8.3 names are disabled), the file also has an 8.3 compatible name such as myfile~1.doc. You can see this name with the DIR /X command or by viewing the file properties in explorer. It was this 8.3 compatible name that was being found with the /in*.doc parameter. Garry
