The first batch of failures are symptomatic of small timestamp=20 differences when copying between different disk formats e.g. FAT vs=20 NTFS. Adding the /FF switch will usually cure this. The persistent copy failures are symptomatic of "files in use". XP in=20 particular keeps many files locked for exclusive use and they can't=20 be copied while XP is running. W98 has the same issue but less files=20 are affected as you have already noticed. The only way to copy these=20 files is to boot into an alternate OS either from a boot floppy or=20 via the start up menu if multi-boot is operating. Be aware however that the alternate OS needs to be able to recognise=20 the disk format. If you are using say NTFS and booting to MS-DOS, you=20 need a program like NTFSDOS (http://www.sysinternals.com) to read the=20 NTFS partitions. A minimal parallel XP installation as described by Kan in=20 http://www.xxcopy.com/xxcopy80.htm would also be suitable. Garry
