What is that? There is, but I believe Windoze won't handle them properly. The primary partition map has room for 4 partitions. Normally one of these is set to point to the primary or boot or C partition, and another is set to describe the extended partition(s). That leaves two entries free. These can be used for such things as a Linux boot partition (which it is advisable to keep in the low end of the disk for various reasons) or other things. I think funny routines such as the systems for making large disks visible on old bioses also go there. The extended partition repeats the scheme. It can have up to 4 partitions, one or more of which can point to further extended partitions. The other entries can describe so called drives within the extended partition. More intelligent OSs understand all this. Think of the Russian nested dolls. -- Chuck F (cbfalconer@y...) (cbfalconer@w...) Available for consulting/temporary embedded and systems.
