It'll happen when lumber companies figure out that they can sell plywood in 
sheets one meter by two meters, which looks "almost" as big as the current 
standard 4' x 8', and when builders figure out they can space joists and 
studs at 50 cm to match, which is "almost" as good as the current 16" 
standard but saves a couple of studs per house. Money talks!
