I can't really think of any reason for this other than some application keeping 100's of files open which doesn't seem highly likely. It is possible however as this post regarding "paperport" attests http://groups.yahoo.com/group/xxcopy/message/1912. I also vaguely recall a user having problems with files which were being displayed with thumbnails in explorer - the underlying application (media player?) kept the files open while displaying the thumbnails. The only other possibility that comes to mind is a cyclic copy (the source includes the destination) such as "xxcopy c:\ c:\backup\ /clone" (the /CCY switch will fix that). How about posting the actual command you are using and an edited list of the errors and xxcopy summary you are getting. There might be something that is apparent to some of the regulars here. You can use /oNc:\xxcopy.log to create a log file of the xxcopy results then edit that to show us what's happening. Also, make sure that you aren't running other applications at the time including explorer and anti-virus software. > Thank for your other remarks about the about the locked > files. Kan is working on this rather intractible problem so he may come up with something in the future (see http://groups.yahoo.com/group/xxcopy/message/4142). For the procedure for creating a bootable W98 clone see http://xxcopy.com/xxcopy10.htm. > PS Is there a way to stop these messages from shattering > (inappropriate line breaks)?
