Kan, In Message No. 2 of XXCOPY Digest 675, Denis Green asked whether XXCOPY could be used to make incremental backups to a Read Only CD (CD-R). In your answer in Message 3 of the same Digest, you made a good reply about the differsnce between the /CLONE and /BACKUP switches, but I don not believe you addressed the question about using XXCOPY to backup to CD-R media. I use Nero 5 and I have not found any way to use XXCOPY to backup directly to CD-R. In the Nero documentation, all references to writing to CD-R that I can find call for using the Nero program to make compilations to write to CD-R. Is there a way to use XXCOPY to backup directly to CD-R? On the other hand, I use XXCOPY to backup selected folders to formatted CD-RW frequently and it works quite well. I use several batch files that I have written to automate the backups for several different sets of folders. Recently I wanted to clone a CD-RW to another CD-RW disc using XXCOPY. The target CD-RW had been used to back up the same folders and when I started the backup. I received an error message saying that there was not enough room on the target CD-RW for the operation. In the source CD-RW many, many files had been deleted, so there should have been room for the clone operation. My solution was to write a batch file like this in order to delete files on the destination CD-RW that would be overwritten or deleted by the /CLONE operstion before starting the copying operation: REM This portion clones CD M: with deletions to L:\ REM REM The first line below deletes files and folders on the REM destination CD-RW that are either not in the source or else REM qualify for being overwritten REM REM NOTE: The deletion command looks backwards, but it is correct REM to delete files on L:\ !!!!! REM E:\XXCOPY\XXCOPY.exe /RS/BU/FF/YY L:\* M:\ E:\XXCOPY\XXCOPY.exe /EC/WS/BU/FF/NX0/YY M:\* L:\ This batch file seems to do the trick. Do you have any suggestions for a better way to do this? I am using XXCOPY Pro version 2.84.0 on WIN98 2nd edition. Bernie Robinson User No. XX40212
