Kan, yes, a new switch which would let a list of files in the target be passed over for deletion would help me greatly. I use xxcopy to backup win xp while it's inactive and I'm booted to another partition. My backup doesn't contain the files I've excluded, such as the page file and hibernate file. So, when I restore, I need a "don't act on these in the target" list. I had hiberfil.sys and pagefile.sys in an exclusion file for the target, but for months I never realized that my restores (which I've had to do many of) were deleting pagefile.sys (I usually don't have hibernation on) and it was being recreated, then I'd find it all fragmented when running the defragmenter, and the only way I know to fix it is to boot win 98 in another partition to dos, attrib the pagefile -s -h, then go to win 98 and defrag the xp partition. Anyhow, I certainly wouldn't want you to change the behavior of /clone by itself. A new switch would be wonderful. Meanwhile, I'll put 0-byte text files in the backup with the names of the files I don't want to erase on the target. BTW, I had been putting in dummy directories such as "Temporary Internet Files" all along. For my purpose, not having a switch and list equivalent (to /x and /ex) is a real mind-teaser due to the workarounds I have to remember to do. Maybe (also?) a switch which simply makes the /ex list apply to the target as well. Like /ext would also include the target. Thanks!
