I never thought about it. It carries a risk of overwriting other files whose name collides with what XXCOPY's download file contains. E.g., we have our own README.TXT file and INSTALL.BAT. We do not guarantee that none of the files in our download file have name common to other files of importance. Since we generally recommend storing the XXCOPY executable at C:\windows\system32\ (for XP) or C:\windows\command\ (for Win9x), you may be risking a possibility that some of your important files may be overwritten. Our recommendation is to unzip into a temporary directory and from the temporary directory, run the following command (if you have your XXCOPY.LIC file, you should place it to the temporary directory). XXCOPY /INSTALL XXCOPY then will rename old version of its copy in the destination (usually the above-mentioned directory) with the version number encoded into the filename and copy the new files into the home directory. The README.DOC (and possibly other) file will not be copied. After the installation, you can discard any file in the temporary directory. The above procedure is the official installation procedure. But, there is nothing wrong to simply copy the new version over the old version. Kan Yabumoto
