Dear Kan, David and others Thanks for the exhaustive replies. It's great to see enthusiasm and expertise together. Just to confirm... 1. I am using XXcopy ver. updated to the site in Feb 2003. OS -> Win 2000 2. I've understood that I should use ONE OF the following command(s) xxcopy \src\ \dst\ /backup xxcopy \src\ \dst\ /clone clone having some features over backup (as discussed in other posts) 3. ***I suppose I have to be contended with /backup version of the command, as I am planning to copy into CD-R s. ? **** 3. Now some further questions ---------------------------------- - My "source" consists of bmp, jpg etc files and so would extend to some 7 -> 8 CDs (approx 5+ GB). There may be changes to directories / sub directories between successive backups. Will XXcopy handle this [during the first back up and during successive backups] or should I manually handle this (i.e.) creating and selecting subdirectories of < 700 MB size - Roxio direct CD - How should this be used in combination with XXcopy ? any tips ? - will the restore machine also need roxio ? has anyone tested a restore using this combination of Roxio with XXcopy ? and ... has this been answered ? > > Is there a way to use XXCOPY to backup > directly to CD-R? > Thanks in advance DG On 2 Jun 2003 at 9:17, David Mayerovitch wrote: > Bernie, I'm not familiar with the Nero > software, but I have been using the > Adaptec DirectCD program (from Roxio, I > think) for some time and have had no > problem using XXCOPY to back up my files > to a CD-R just as easily as to a CD-RW. > > David > > >Message: 4 > > Date: Sun, 01 Jun 2003 15:12:47 > > -0400 From: Bernard Robinson > > > >Subject: Two Questions > > > >Kan, > > > >In Message No. 2 of XXCOPY Digest 675, > >Denis Green asked whether XXCOPY could > >be used to make incremental backups to > >a Read Only CD (CD-R).
