 I suggest taking a peek at Knoppix. Knoppix
lives entirely on a CD and as long as your PC can boot
from a PC knoppix doesn't even care if you have a hard
drive. Once you have Knoppix on CD you can yse it to
view your hard drive and although I haven't tried to
do it I think Knoppix would not mind copying your hard
drive completely and the files to another drive.
