Did you run XXCOPY from the NT4 machine (the E: drive is a local drive on the NT4 machine) or on another machine? (What service pack does the NT4 machine have? Mine has SP6.) I did run XXCOPY from the NT4 machine, and yes, the E: drive is local to that machine. All drives are NTFS formatted on the NT4 machine. I'm also running service pack 6 (6a actually). I've done some more experimenting and no matter what I do, I cannot get the directories to retain their original creation timestamps after I copy files into them. I did not try Win98 as Kan mentioned that it would not likely work. All told this has certainly been an exercise in futility, all for some data that will probably never be accessed again. But just in case, we still need to try and retain it. at this point I am about to resort to a printout of the directory listing directly from the MO drive and then not worry about cloning the directory timestamps. It may cause a problem with our old software, but that remains to be tested (i.e. will it find a test if the directory date has changed?). Any other suggestions before I give up? Dale
