I believe the problem is at the "destination base directory" rather than the subdirectories underneath. If so, it is the design feature rather than a bug. When we first designed XXCOPY, we had a choice and we made the decision that the "top-most" destination directory is considered as a newly created directory in the destination volume rather than something we copy from somewhere else. The logic is simply this: xxcopy c:\srcname\ d:\destname\ When you give a different name to the different directory, it can be viewed as a brand new directory which has nothing to do with the source except the contents of the destination directory are clearly copies from the source. We chose to look at the situation from this angle even if you give the destination name identical to that of the source. This decision we made a long time ago is apparently not what most users expect as the most logical (or, intuitive) behavior. But, that's how XXCOPY has been behaving (including the inheritance of the SFN, security info, etc.). Because the change is not just the time stamp, we decided to implement the changes in the next big release. We've been doing ad-hoc adjustments to this issue in piecemeal fashion. Kan Yabumoto.
