Kan, We have seen this effect, also, without finding the cause. 
We have seen it most often while running xxcopy because we use 
it all the time, but it also has happened with plain old "copy."

In our use, it occurs when copying between a local and a remote 
with different OSes. Our locals are mostly W9x, and the remote 
is Win 2000. Usually, files are being copied from the local to 
the remote. On very rare occasions, the hanging up happens when 
the reverse is true.

It has happened less often recently, when we quit using Lantastic 
software and starting using Windows Client software.

CBFalconer says "Possibly the DOS box has the 'suspend when focus 
switched' characteristic ticked." I don't know where that choice 
is found; I don't see it in "Properties."
