Since the problem seems to be confined to some particular machines, it suggests that the problem relates to some settings on those machines. The only thing I can can think of that may affect short filename creation is if the servers have 8.3 names turned off. Because Xxcopy tries to manipulate SFNs, having 8.3 names off may be causing a problem. The registry key is: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem\NtfsDisable8dot3NameC reation Setting it to 0 allows 8.3 names, 1 disables 8.3 name creation. Garry
