I don't know exactly what API call(s) XXCOPY is using -- when /nx is specified -- to (attempt to) force the existence of a particular SFN (the one the source file had) for a copied file, but it's possible that the call causes an 8.3 name to be created. However, I don't know how/why the name created wouldn't have been the one that XXCOPY was trying to specify. J. Merrill / Analytical Software Corp
